I had a dear friend pass away in a car accident in 2001. Being musicians my brothers and I played his favorite song for him at his funeral (Don't Follow by Mad Season). We all went out a couple weeks later for his birthday and fate or chance or whatever would bring us to a little bar that only would hold about 50 people max. It is there that I saw Scott, Seth, and Bob for the first time! They were as amazing then for 27 people as they are for 27,000 now. Anyway all my friends were requesting them to sing that song we played for our friend. Myself, knowing these guys were doing originals and not taking requests, was a little embarrased by it and in no way expecting them to even acknowledge. After the show my brother, his girlfriend, and myself were standing out back having a cigarette when this little Toyota pick up drove by. The truck stopped and Seth jumped out, grabbed his old 35 from the back and told us he loved that song and would love to play it for us. He played the song for us, made us all cry, put his guitar away and they rolled out. From that day on I have followed them all over the country and seen them a million times. Those guys are a class act and an oddity in the music industry today. They made fans for life that night and I have turned hundreds of people on to The Avett Brothers since
