Swept Away - lyrical meaning

I've read some good discussion on the meaning of the lyrics of Swept Away, but I am curious to hear more. What does everyone think?

He is in love. I guess I thought it was pretty cut and dry.

But their good times come with prices
And I can't believe it when I hear the jokes they make
At anyone's expese except their own
Would they laugh if they knew who paid?

what does the line "you have never seen me, and you never will again" mean

"But I can't go back, and I don't want to,
'cause all my mistakes, they brought me to you"

taken in context, it may mean that he's in love with her, but she doesn't know it...

just an idea.

That is an interesting question, johnh. I mean, the whole song seems to relate to a current, happy relationship, except that line. It has always stood out to me as well. I have a couple of theories, either:
the song is telling a story from different view points/perspectives, as in SSS
or if you listen to the lyrics, all of the song is referencing a love that was only a fleet moment in time, except the verse that Bonnie sings in the sentimental version.
I could go on and on, interested to hear what you and the op think.

that was the main reason i ask, that line just sticks out from the rest of the song. it seems like such a sweet love song except for that line. it is mine and my gf's song so she is always asking me what it means.

I think I commented on this in another thread on Swept Away, but I'll mention it here again:

I think that line is building on the concept of being "swept away" -- if she has really swept him away (taken him out of his former way of life, exploded everything he once was, or thought he was) then in a SENSE, he doesn't really exist anymore -- not the way he did before.

I think that's what they mean by "you have never seen me" (as I was before you swept me away) "and you never will again" (that old person is GONE now; I'm somebody new with you). So actually, I think that line, far from contradicting the rest of the song, really capsulizes the whole thing.

"Free is not your right to choose, it's answering what's asked of you, to give the love you find until it's gone."

awesome thought AerixJ. I can see it now!

totally.

Yep...makes a lot of sense in that context, thanks!

Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent.
